Sixteen people from both groups have been arrested on the apprehension of breach of peace and public order, they said.

Trouble broke out yesterday when the meeting was discussing the issue of teasing of a girl in the village. The two groups confronted each other and a clash soon broke out.

Brickbats and lathis were freely used during the clash in which seven persons were injured, police said.

Security has been tightened in the village where the situation is tense.
