GURU SHABAD - The words of God
'Shantanu & Nikhil', once again squeeze an outburst of emotions carrying soul and sensitivity throughout their Fall-Winter 2005 collection. This time they open their collection marking the tercentenary of the Khalsa by celebrating the remarkable history of Sikh Punjab. The collection pays its tribute to Sikh religion and Sikh culture for its purity and tranquility. Khalsa, or order of the Pure, has given Sikhism its unique identity of strength and has opened the way for a new consciousness
The collection depicts the strength of the Sikh women, whose life is reminiscent of love, sacrifice, struggle and pain.
The focus of the collection is on body conscious silhouettes through exaggerated drapes. The collection is an amalgamation of luxury and glamour reflected through silhouettes comprising, skirts, roughed tops, t-shirts with Indian yokes, churidar teamed with chogas
However there is a very strong emphasis on coordinates especially churidars which have been given extensive drapes and texturing through mismatch of pleats and fabrics, thereby giving it a warrior like look.
The collection is given a rich legacy by the use of luxurious and heritage fabrics that are an extreme epitome of structured and sensual femininity. Delicate and multi-faceted fabrics like silk chiffon, silk georgette, silk zaris, siflis with an interesting twist of structured voiles have been used extensively to bring forth the element of subdued glamour and relaxed sophistication
Colours put together are very vintage and luxurious, characterized by humanism, universalism and pluralism -The Sikh Baptism. There is a very strong focus on navy blues and royal blues, the colour of the 'Nihangs', teamed with fluid shades of light grey. These colours through out the collection preach a whole-life religion for the full and balanced development of an individual.
