Although the medical facility was to be made available from November 1, the varsity authorities have delayed it due to shortage of funds.

With the change in status of the varsity from state to central, the varsity authorities have decided to provide central facilities to its teachers and
employees.

It was decided in the meeting of AU's Executive Council on October 18, 2006 to provide the medical facilities to the teachers and employees of the varsity and constituent colleges as per Central Government rules. However, the varsity could not implement the medical facility scheme from November 1.

On being contacted AU registrar Firdaous A Wani said that the authorities had earlier decided to implement the scheme from November 1, but due to some shortcomings in the scheme and shortage of funds we have held up the scheme and will implement it very soon.

Wani said that a panel of AU officials were holding discussions on how to implement the scheme which will be on trial basis for the remaining months of the current year.

Wani said, " Under the proposed scheme an 'A' class employee of the varsity who gets treatment as an outdoor patient will be provided medical facility upto an amount equal to his one month basic salary while other than class 'A" employees will be given medical facility equal to their two months' basic salaries which would be reimbursed later."

"Besides this talks are on with various renowned hospitals to take care of employees undergoing treatment as indoor patients.

The maximum limit for treatment in such corporate hospitals will be upto Rs 3 lakh per family which includes employee, spouse and minor children ", said Wani.
"The monthly contribution by the employees will also be defined according to the class of employees including teachers. The discussions are on final stage and soon the panel will put forward the scheme for implementation after approval from the authorities", added Wani.
