The Central Election Committee of the Party headed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also cleared the name of Sandeep Dikshit, son of Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit from East Delhi and former Lok Sabha MP Sajjan Kumar from Outer Delhi, AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes said in a statement on Thursday.

The name of Sibal, Dixit and Kumar figured in the list of nine candidates from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh released by the party this morning.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Central Election Committee has decided to field former minister Ashok Yadav from Sambhal, former petrolium secretary Davi Dayal (Khurja-sc), Vikram Singh (Amroha), Jairaj Maurya (Bijnor-sc), Surendra Goel and (Hapur) and Jaichand Tyagi (Baghpat), Fernandes said.

Vikram Singh has been nominated from Amroha in place of Rashid Alvi, who won the seat in BSP ticket but joined the Congress last week.

Alvi had earier indicated that he may not contest the polls but would actively campaign for the party to expose BJP-led government and its policies.

While Kumar would be taking on BJP leader and Union Minister Sahib Singh, Dixit would be facing BJP MP in the dissolved Lok Sabha Lal Bihari Tiwari in East Delhi.

BJP was yet to nominate its candidate in Chandni Chowk.

It was a long wait for Kumar to be nominated for the Outer Delhi Lok Sabha seat. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from outer Delhi in 1984 but was denied in successive polls following his alleged involvement in the anti-Sikh riots in 1984 after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
