Defence Minister and NDA Convenor George Fernandes today attacked Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying she has "no idea about the country or its culture".

Addressing a joint public meeting with BJP President Venkaiah Naidu here, he said Congress "likes to tell lies and the same habit has come to Sonia Gandhi".

He said when Kargil conflict was on with Pakistan, Gandhi gave an impression that India would lose. "But when our soldiers won, she did not even compliment them".

Fernandes said NDA was committed to country's development and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has the "foresight and dynamism" to lead the nation in that direction.

Naidu, meanwhile, blamed previous Congress rule for backwardness in the country.

He called upon voters not to trust Congress and alleged the party indulged in "blackmarketing and corruption".
