Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz on Tuesday expressed happiness over the Supreme Court verdict on the Narmada dam saying it has laid special emphasis on the rehabilitation of displaced persons.

"I am very happy over the judgement of the Supreme Court where it has laid a special emphasis on the rehabilitation of the displaced people. The Government also wants the dam to be built but an equal emphasis needs to be given to the rehabilitation of the people," he said.

Soz recalled that the group of Ministers led by him which had visited the sites noticed that the rehabilitation was not in consonance with the Supreme Court directives. "That was our only objection," he said.

Soz also expressed happiness over NBA leader Medha Patkar calling off her 20-day long hunger strike.

The Minister, who met the Prime Minister following the apex court's verdict, however, declined to elaborate on the details of the meeting.
