State not discharging its duties

FORMER VICE-CHANCELLOR of Dibrugarh University (Assam) Prof SM Dubey said families, educational institutions, political parties and the state were not discharging their duties in a proper manner at present due to which society was facing enormous difficulties such as unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, terrorism, crime and corruption.

He said these problems were on the rise as there was lack of political commitment, misguided economic policies and inadequate social set-up
He was delivering a lecture on ‘Challenges and Problems Before Indian Society’ at Social Science Faculty in Banaras Hindu University here on Thursday. Social Work Unit of Sociology Department had organised the lecture. He said India was lagging behind in literacy. “Sri Lanka was 91 per cent literacy rate whereas in India the literacy rate was only 65 per cent,” he said.

Former Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof SK Srivastava was the guest of honour on the occasion. Acting Head of Sociology Department Prof Jaikant Tiwari presided over the function.
