Stop here!?but where to go?

SO WHAT if you are in a hurry to attend an emergency matter or take a patient to hospital? You never know as to which road in the city would be under repair by the PWD or the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) or Jal Sansthan. You never know when telecom giants will dig your road up to give you an unguided tour through the entire city! Since none of these departments ever intimate the traffic police about their work, no instructions about the diversion of the route is issued from the SP traffic office.

The traffic cops too ignore the beeline of vehicles and commuters struggling with the chaos and cursing the police.

Lack of coordination between government departments involved in digging up the roads and the traffic police leads to major trouble for the students, office-goers and others.

Leave aside any other place, Sapru Marg where the SSP’s bungalow and police officer’s mess are located remained dug up for over two weeks. Two traffic constables are deputed permanently at the Sapru Marg-Shahanajaf Road crossing to ensure smooth traffic movement there.

A prominent school is located on Shahanajaf Road and traffic movement goes for a toss during morning and noon hours. Besides, hundreds of people and similar number of vehicles move on Sapru Marg as a leading shopping mall near SSP’s bungalow too is located.

It takes at least 20 minutes to pass the 500 metres stretch of Sapru Marg during busy traffic hours in the noon and evening hours. The traffic constables move away towards shopping mall whenever they see vehicles stuck haphazardly on the road.

Similarly, the road connecting Ashok Marg, Meera Bai Marg and Narhi close to Shakti Bhawan too has become a mess for the people. Half of the road is lying dug up for past several days and the department appears unconcerned with the traffic chaos.

On the other hand, construction of another over bridge on river Gomti connecting Gomti Nagar too has caused a major trouble for thousands of the people passing through the Gomti Nagar Flyover Road and Lohia Park Road daily.

The construction agency is involved in widening of the road too simultaneously.

When enquired about such mess:
ASP Onkar Singh, who has additional charge of SP Traffic, says, “We send missives to PWD and other departments at regular intervals seeking details about their plans of digging up roads in different areas. If we get the response timely we also ensure traffic management properly.”
