A graduate of Zimbabwe's CFX Academy and regular member of the A team, Matsikenyeri found the step-up to senior international status a big one against Pakistan at Bulawayo in November 2002.
Asked to open the batting in his debut appearance, he was dismissed by Wasim Akram for one and lost his place after one further appearance.
But he was given a late call-up into the World Cup when Brian Murphy was forced to withdraw after damaging a hamstring and played in the Super Six game against Sri Lanka. In 2003 he played in the NatWest Series in England as well.
His Test and ODI strike rate figures are fairy close, being 54.74 and 56.34 respectively.
He also backs up as a part-time off-spin bowler and as a batsman he is known to be good on the cut and pull.
