Two students died after the car they were going to school in skidded off the road and plunged in a pond about 50 kilometres from here in Palwal district on Tuesday morning.
The two boys, who are also cousins, were with two other students in the car on their way to school when the accident occurred near Methapur village around 8am on Tuesday. The victims are in class 12 and 7 at a government school in Chhaina area.
The deceased have been identified as Shahid and Tasleem. They are residents of Methapur village under Hathin police station in Palwal.
Police said some local residents saw the car falling in the pond after it skidded off the road.
They rushed to save those in the car, including the driver, but couldn't save the two cousins. They died on the spot.
The police were also called. Senior civil officers also rushed to the spot.
The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment whereas the bodies were handed over to the respective families.
Local residents blamed the dilapidated condition of the road for the accident. They also said that during monsoon, especially because of the heavy rain of the last few days, the roads are always flooded.
