A general court martial in Guwahati on Saturday ordered Prakash's dismissal after finding him guilty of misusing his authority in 2008 to facilitate the transfer of a 70-acre plot near Siliguri in West Bengal to a private realtor for developing an educational institution.
Apart from loss of rank, Prakash will not get any retirement benefits if the conviction is confirmed by the Eastern Army commander - the convening authority for the court martial.
Prakash - the senior-most army officer to be court-martialled - has the option of challenging the decision before an armed forces tribunal.
