Suhirdarajan was the Trincomalee correspondent of the Colombo-based Tamil daily Sudar Oli.

Sources in the paper said that Suhirdarajan, father of two children, was waiting for a bus at Uvarmalai, when two men in a motorcycle accosted him and shot him dead.

The on-going covert war of attrition between the LTTE and the non-LTTE Tamil groups in Sri Lanka after the ceasefire agreement was signed in December 2002, has claimed the lives of journalists also.

Before Suhirdarajan, Aiyathurai Nadesan, the Batticaloa correspondent of Virakesari was killed in Batticaloa.

Dharmaratnam Sivaram, editor of Tamilnet website and a leading political commentator, was killed in Colombo.
