However, 15 other senior also involved in the incident managed to escape. The trio also received a sound thrashing from the professors, for allegedly ragging girl students, before being handed over to the police.
According to sources, principal Dr Narendra Dhakad was alerted by a bystander over phone about 15 seniors ragging 50 juniors on the ground near the basketball court at about 10 am.
Dhakad immediately called the police and in the meantime instructed the professors present to surround the area and later with the help of the police caught some of the accused. The three accused Prakash Chauhan, Ashok Chaudhary and Kamal Kumar were detained by the police on the basis of an application sent by the college saying they allegedly were involved in ragging juniors.
Later in the evening the college sent a letter stating that they were taking disciplinary action against the students involved in the incident and the three could be released on personal undertaking.
Sources said a senior Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) functionary met the senior staff members persuading them to be lenient with the accused.
The girls who were ragged also refused to lodge any complaint with the police against the culprits, which could have ensured strict action against the erring senior students by the anti-ragging committee under the stern rules.
