With reference to Yamini Aiyar’s article A fight for better governance (July 24), NREGA is an act and not a scheme. Its provisions check corruption and make the social audit mandatory in all the works under NREGA. A vibrant gram sabha and strong panchayat can only ensure transparency, but NREGA provides an opportunity to make the system of governance transparent and accountable at lower levels.
