Association president Anil Kushwaha, said the government had gone ahead to do away with the ‘tehbazari’ but could not get any time to think of providing any succour to transporters who were hit hard by steep hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

Association general secretary Kuldeep Misra said the day was not far when transporters like many others would be forced to come in the category of the unemployed in the state in case the government failed to heed to their demands.

He said if the not from new bridges, the government should immediately abolish taking toll tax from old bridges because it had already collected a lot of money than what had been used in construction earlier.

If the State Government really wanted to help transporters, it should do away with the sales tax on petrol and diesel, said Kushwaha. Commenting on tehbazari, he said, despite being abolished the system was still prevalent in many parts of the district. Musclemen, he said, were still extracting tehbazari on their own and the administration was helpless, he alleged.
