A tribal girl who was allegedly sold for Rs 50,000 and raped in Uttar Pradesh has been rescued from UP and handed over to her family.
The 19-year-old girl, who hails from Sarni in Betul district, about 175kms south east of Bhopal, went missing almost two months ago.
The police said a woman, Kalavati, had lured the teenager and later boarded her in a train with a youngster, Pravin Kashyap. The youngster had reportedly given Rs 50,000 to Kalavati for bringing the teenager.
Kashyap first took her to Delhi and then to UP. At his house in his native town in Dargahpur in Shamli, he kept her for nearly one-and-a-half months. He also threatened her of dire consequences in case she revealed any information about her native place to anyone.
It is learnt that Kalavati has been involved in human trafficking in Betul for quite some time. She had earlier also lured girls from the area with promises to get them job and took them away. Those girls are also suspected to have been sold off.
The police have arrested Kashyap and Kalavati, and booked for human trafficking.
While Kashyap told the police that he had given money to Kalavati, he also insists that he married the girl. The victim, however, said she was forcibly taken away and raped. During initial interrogation, the accused told the police that he had paid the money because he wanted to marry the girl.
Kashyap has been booked for rape also. The Betul police are conducting further investigations in the case. Kalavati would also be quizzed regarding her links and about other missing girls from the region who are also suspected to have been sold outside the state.
