Police sources said local CPI(M) activist Sukhchand Khali was detained after the family of Trinamool activist Pradip Das lodged an FIR alleging Das was kidnapped on return from duty at Gholpukur railway project site where he was the night guard.

Das was a witness of a rape case in the area which took place when frequent clashes occured between CPI(M) and Trinamool over control of turf.

Khali was rounded up as the family of Das alleged he was getting threats by the CPI(M) activist, the sources said.
