AFTER WITHDRAWAL of nominations by two contenders for the zila panchayat chairperson’s post, there will be a direct fight between Samajwadi Party candidate Chinta Yadav and joint opposition candidate Kaushalya Devi.

The Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party, reached an understanding with saffron forces and they decided to contest the election under the leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adityanath.

On Tuesday, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Anju Singh and independent candidate Malti Devi withdraw their nomination papers.

Lobbying has started for the election. A team of newly elected Zila Panchayat members was in Lucknow with local Samajwadi Party leaders to show their strength to chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Sources said 37 members appeared before the chief minister.
