The police on Friday arrested two more college students from the city for their alleged involvement in the gangrape of a 23-year-old American student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

The victim, who was reportedly raped on Sunday morning, had lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday evening. She cited the names of six accused, three of whom — Dev Cyrus Colabawala, Anish Pradip Borkatki and Kundanraj Balinkumar Borgonain — were arrested within hours of her lodging complaint.

“The accused have been identified as Harshvardhan Yadav (22) and Karan (20). The duo was arrested from Churchgate on Friday morning,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Dilip Sawant.

According to police officials, Harsh and Karan hail from Jamshedpur. “They came to Mumbai for the purpose of studies and had been staying in the city since the past 3-4 years,” said an officer.

“Though Harsh and Karan had knowledge that their friends had been arrested, they did not flee from the city. They were trying out various sources in order to exert influence on the police so that they could get away with the case,” an official said.

The two were produced at the Kurla Metropolitan Court on Friday and were remanded to police custody till April 28.
