A third boy Vishnu, resident of the same colony, who had almost got drowned was somehow saved at the nick of the time. In all five boys had gone for a dip in the river which flows about one and a half kilometre behind the colony. A visibly shaken Vishnu who came back from the jaws of death told HT Allahabad Live that all the boys were playing volleyball in the river when we suddenly realised that Avneesh was drowning. Seeing his condition Sanjeev went ahead to save him but got drowned himself.
Meanwhile, Vishnu lurched forward to save his two friends but he had to struggle hard to save himself. Though his life was saved but he had swallowed plenty of water. Panicked at what had happened the other two boys Chandan and Pintu quietly came back home and did not disclose anything to the colony people.
Meanwhile, Vishnu regained consciousness and came back to the colony. Instead of heading to his block in the colony he sat at a nearby shop and started crying. On being asked by the people as to what had happened he broke down and narrated the sad incident.
As the news circulated in the colony people rushed to the Draupadi Ghat to find the dead bodies which were fished out with the help of a net after nearly four hours.
Avneesh's father Kishori Mohan Singh, who is a clerk at the CDA Pension office, had gone to his home town Gamhar in Ghazipur district to attend a marriage along with his wife. Having received the tragic news on phone they are rushing back to the city.
Sanjeev's father, Ram Pravesh Mistry, is also a clerk at the CDA Pension office. Both the families live in the same block.
The place where the tragedy occurred is quite vulnerable. Several others have lost their lives at the same spot, said people living in the colony.
All the boys had reportedly gone to the river without telling their parents about their plans. Some of them had merely said that they were going to play.
