Uttar Pradesh Government on Wednesday night ordered a magisterial probe into the violence that erupted here following the encounter of two youths.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said the probe will cover issues of both police encounter and the subsequent violence by a mob that accused police of killing "innocent" persons.
"The government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. It will cover both encounter and the violence that followed it," Brj Lal told PTI from Lucknow.
The inquiry will be conducted by Ghaziabad District Magistrate Hriday Narayan, he said.
The mob had torched nearly half a dozen vehicles and attacked a police post this evening, protesting the shootout.
Police claimed that the duo had stabbed a person and fled with his vehicle from Indirapuram area of the city and died in an encounter after they were chased.
The protesters claimed that those killed -- Rais and Feroz -- residents of the area, were "innocent and not criminals".
As the protest turned violent and the mob set ablaze five motorcycles and a jeep and damaged over one dozen vehicles, including roadways buses, in stone pelting.
They also set ablaze furniture and records of the Sihani Gate police post.
