Lashing out at the people demanding clemency for Parliament attack mastermind Mohammad Afzal, the VHP on Tuesday warned the UPA Government against succumbing to pressure from such forces.

Criticising the Congress chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh, and former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah for opposing the death penalty to Afzal, VHP senior leader Pravin Togadia said such senior leaders should not be asking for clemency and trying “Indian tolerance”.

“The people seeking clemency for Afzal are interfering with the judicial system and also discriminating on religious lines,” he stated.

He announced that the VHP would carry out a countrywide campaign on October 20 to highlight the issue where effigies of Afzal would be given a symbolic hanging in all cities and villages.
