Residents of Chuddan village are on warpath against the alleged sex racket operated by teachers of a primary government school.
A meeting was called on the school campus on Sunday for chalking out the future strategy, in which a large number of women also took part.
“We have decided to wait for the police action,” said Bhushan Kumar, president of the school management committee.
“In case the police fail to take strict action against the guilty school staff, the villagers will not only file petition in the high court, but may also start agitation,” said Vinod Kumar, a local resident.
The administration of Government Primary School, Chuddan, in the Palyion panchayat located on the border of Haryana had come under the radar of the police investigation over the alleged involvement of teachers and the cook of the midday meal in the sex racket on Thursday.
“We will go to any extent to get justice. We may also gherao the DC office and organise a procession in the district,” said Nirmal Kumar, a member of the school management committee (SMC).
He added that 12 persons, including women, appeared before the inquiry officer and the ASP for giving their statement, but their statement was not recorded.
A 23-year-old woman of the village told HT that she had narrow escape from getting involved in the sex racket being run by the teachers and the cook of the school. She alleged that the cook along with the teachers tried to sexually exploit her several times, but luckily she escaped.
“They tried to sell me in Naraingarh, Haryana, because I regularly go there for studies,” she alleged.
As evidence, a CD of voice recording was also given to the police authorities, but FIR was yet to be registered in the case, said Anil Kumar Sharma, vice-president of the panchayat.
He said resentment among villagers was increasing day by day.
If the statements of villagers are to be believed, some teachers of the school were actively involved in sexual exploitation of women and girls of the school.
Meanwhile, ASP Bhagat Singh Thakur said the investigation was in progress and till the inquiry was completed nothing could be commented on the issue.
He admitted that a group of villagers had appeared before him on Saturday for giving the statement, but he wanted to record the statements on the spot, thus it was not recorded. He said the people should also keep patience as they needed time to conduct a detailed inquiry.
However, deputy director of elementary education KS Negi said the department would not conduct separate inquiry because the police was inquiring the matter.
