The woman was raped on Saturday after the accused persons beat her husband Abdul Karim Abdul Rahim, a migrant labourer from Badnera in Amravati, to death, police said.

According to them the family, in the city for their child's treatment, was staying in a rented house in a shanty in Sakkardara area where Rahim was employed in a scrap shop.

On Saturday the shop owner, along with six other persons, beat the 30-year-old Rahim with iron rods, on suspicion that he was stealing scrap from the shop, resulting in his death.

They later dragged his wife to an isolated place and gangraped her, police said.

The victim managed to reach the police station, profusely bleeding, late last night and lodged a complaint against the six men, some of whom were then rounded up by the police.

The accused were identified as Asif Jalya, Nitin Gaikwad and Sajid Pagalya, all from the same locality.

Others, including Riyaj Painter, Javed, Kalu and another unidentified person, were absconding, police said.

Police have registered cases against them under relevant sections.
