‘Y’ category security cover for Nita Ambani on paid basis

Her husband, who is already a ‘Z’ category central protectee, also pays for his security. As many as 40 personnel from the CRPF guard his residence and office besides protecting him when he moves around in his armoured custom-made Mercedes.

“Since her (Nita Ambani) residence is already protected by the CRPF as part of her husband’s security, no additional resources will be deployed there. She will get around 20 guards for her round-the-clock protection across the country,” said a home ministry official who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to media.

Officials said though there is no specific threat to Nita Ambani, but being spouse of Mukesh Ambani she may face threats from criminals and other anti-national elements.

“Besides managing an IPL T20 cricket team franchise, Nita Ambani is also active with various non-governmental organisations. As chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, she also visits many places due to its partnership with the American National Basketball Association. There were many occasions when she was mobbed by fans and they tried to take selfies with her. With security around such situations may not occur,” said the official.
