Ruling BJP was heading for a clear majority in Gujarat assembly elections, according to an exit poll which gave it 101 seats in the 182-member House.
Congress was tipped to get 69 seats while independents and others were expected to win 11 seats, according to the Zee News-Taleem exit poll that was aired just at the conclusion of the poll on Thursday.
The poll, which covered more than 9000 voters across 31 assembly constituencies, predicted that BJP would get 57 per cent of voteshare against 34 per cent for Congress.
While predicting a 16-seat gain for BJP, the poll indicated a loss of an equal number of seats for Congress.
Even regionwise, BJP was predicted to be well ahead of Congress.
In North Gujarat, while BJP was expected to get 54 per cent voteshare, Congress was expected to get 37 per cent votes, the poll suggested.
It gave forty-eight per cent voteshare to BJP in Saurashtra region against 40 per cent for the Congress.
In Central Gujarat, BJP may get 60 per cent votes while Congress was expected to bag 34 per cent votes.
The BJP was predicted to get 50 per cent votes in South Gujarat against 24 per cent by Congress.
