Chakkjam staged to protest suspected honour killing in Indore; 4 held, main accused on the run

Senior police officials reached the spot and assured the protesters. Police have arrested four persons and hunt for the main accused is on.

On Saturday evening, a youth was murderd by his in-laws at Malviya Nagar. He was allegedly strangled and bludgeoned to death by his father-in-law and five others under Vijay Nagar police station area.

The incident took place around 9 pm when the couple was called by accused on the pretext of celebrating Rakshabandhan festival.

Hemendra Dongre died while his wife Archana is admitted at a private hospital and her condition is said to be serious.

As per the sources, the couple married without the consent of family about one year ago and were living at some place unknown to Archana's family. They were childhood friends and had studied together at the same school and college.

On Saturday afternoon, Archana's brother Chintu invited her home. The main accused Parasnath Atroliya, a zonal officer of the Indore municipal corporation, his son Shailendra, his two brothers Hem Singh and Gadh Singh and his wife Vimla dragged the couple out of the house and strangled Hemendra.

The couple tried to escape from the spot but the accused dragged them again inside the house.

The accused first strangulated the couple and then hit them with stones repeatedly till Hemendra died. They also brutally assaulted Archana and hit her on the stomach with stones. The accused, later fled the scene.

The neighbours brought the couple to Bombay Hospital for treatment. Dongre, however, succumbed to injuries.

"The aim of the family was to kill both Hemendra and Archana and therefore they hit her on the stomach but when both went unconscious they fled from the spot thinking they were death," said a close relative of Hemendra.

Senior police officers said that it was not exactly a case of honour killing and the killing was result of an instantaneous dispute between the couple and the girl's family.

"If it was not an honor killing then what was the motive behind the killing. Police are working under pressure of some people because the main accused Parasnath was an officer with IMC and he had links with politicians and others," said deceased's family member.

Parasnath suspended

Parasnath Aroliya was suspended from Indore Municipal Corporation on Sunday evening. As per a press release issued by IMC, Indore mayor and IMC commissioner Manish Singh suspended Aroliya , who is the main accused in Hemendra Dongre murder case.
