Crossing in Indore to be named after Mars Mission

To commemorate ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission’s grand success, Indore Development Authority will rename an intersection at Super Corridor near Indore Airport as MOM roundabout.

To commemorate Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Mars Orbiter Mission’s (MOM) grand success and with a view to make coming generation aware about the milestone, Indore Development Authority (IDA) is going to rename an intersection at Super Corridor near Indore Airport as Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) roundabout.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, IDA chairman Shankar Lalwani said it is a proud moment for every Indian.

Now we are member of that elite space club and renaming the intersection at Super Corridor near Indore Airport will be the best way to commemorate the grand achievement of our scientists.

"This is for the first time that we are dedicating a crossing to our scientists and the intersection would be renamed "Mars Crossing" or "Mangal Chouraha," he said and added that "The crossing will display a mars shaped ball installed over a red pillar with a message ‘In honour of successful mars mission’ along with details about MOM."

The IDA chief said, "The crossing is ready to welcome delegates from across the globe who would be arriving in the city to attend Global Investors Summit 2014. He said around Rs 7 lakh were spent on its construction.

On September 24, India created history by successfully placing MOM in orbit around Mars, becoming the first country in the world to succeed in such an inter-planetary mission in the maiden attempt itself.
