MP: Fireworks banned from 10pm to 6am, can't be thrown in water bodies

The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) has said that bursting fire crackers which generate loud noise is banned from 10 pm to 6 am. The Board has issued directives in view of the Diwali festivities which will begin next week.

The Board cited a high court order which bans the use of noise-making crackers after 10pm. The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board has said that the manufacture, sale and use of fire crackers which produce noise above 145 decibels is banned under the norms laid by Union Forest and Environment Ministry.

Issuing another directive about the disposal of used crackers, the Board said that they should not be thrown in water bodies and sources like tank, well etc.

This is because crackers are made with chemicals which can pollute water, said an official press release issued on Thursday. The water is consumed by human beings for all kinds of chores and even drinking.
