At around 2.30 pm, four children of a Valmiki Basti family were playing in a pit on the nearby forest land when the soil around the pit caved on them, said Girdhari Lal, the circle officer of Sikar city.

He said the forest department had fenced the area, but the children crossed to other side, where the pit was dug. One among them, who escaped, informed the family members. The children were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead, Lal said. The deceased were identified as Sanjay, Abhishek, Mahesh and Rahul, all aged between 8 and 12 years.

Deputy Conservator of Forest, Sikar, Rajendra Huda also said that the forest land was fenced with wires, but the children crossed it and were playing in the pit when the mishap happened.
