JAIPUR: A bypass surgery was performed on a newborn 18 hours after birth as the baby turned blue due to a serious heart ailment. The surgery was done at Fortis Escorts Hospital on Tuesday. “After a check-up, it was found that there was connection between the baby’s heart and lungs and also a big hole in the heart. There was just a small closing pipe between aorta and lungs,” said Dr Sunil K Kaushal, hospital director, paediatric cardiac surgery. Surgery was the only option to revive blood flow and save the baby, he said.
