There was uproar in the Rajasthan assembly on Friday over leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi’s alleged involvement in gambling. Owing to the din on the issue, the assembly was adjourned till Monday

Dudi was targeted by the ruling BJP, who accused him of being involved in betting while referring to a video, purportedly showing him talking about a Rs 3 crore bet for the Alwar and Ajmer Lok Sabha and Mandalgarh assembly bypolls. The video, which has gone viral, allegedly shows Dudi telling a man that he has done betting of worth Rs 3 crore.

However, Dudi has denied all the charges calling them “baseless”.

As the question hour ended, parliamentary affairs minister Rajendra Rathore brought up the issue of Dudi’s betting Rs 3 crore. Rathore said that the government is carrying out a campaign against black money and corruption and if, after this news, enforcement directorate takes any action the opposition will then allege that the government is targeting them. So the leader of opposition should clear his stand now.

Rathore also referred to a media report that at a function in Dudi’s constituency Nokha, Dalit community persons were fed separately from upper caste people.

BJP MLA Madan Rathore said he had seen the video and offered to show it to Dudi who said he was not aware of any such video.

As the treasury bench members cried shame and thumped their tables, the opposition benches countered the ruling party, saying they too had audios and videos of the BJP leaders.

As allegations flew thick and fast, Speaker Kailash Meghwal adjourned the house for 30 minutes. However after the house reassembled, the ruckus continued and the house was adjourned again till 2 pm. Later, the house was adjourned till Monday.

“The video is false. I have nothing to do with it. The way the government has raised this issue in the assembly is wrong,” he said.

“I am a humble farmer from a village and I have no idea about what betting is or how it is done. The way the BJP has raised the issue in the house… is a conspiracy,” he said.

Talking about separate lunch for Dalits, Dudi said that he had gone to a Dalit family’s house in Nokha to unveil the statue of a community saint. “This was a Meghwal community programme and the lunch was organised by them. I have nothing to do with it,” he said.
