Miscreants vandalised a vegetable market called Ghusuri Bazaar within the jurisdiction of Malipanchghara police station in Howrah on Sunday.
While the vendors of the market alleged that Trinamool supporters carried out the act of vandalism, local Trinamool leaders denied involvement of any of their supporters.
It all started around 10am on Sunday when the Trinamool organised a procession in protest against the continuous rise in price of vegetables, fish, chicken, mutton and other items of daily use.
The procession continued for sometime passing through various streets and roads in Malipanchghara before reaching the vegetable market area, Ghusuri Bazaar.
Trouble started the moment the procession reached Ghusuri Bazar.
According to the vendors of the market, Trinamool supporters who participated in the procession raided the market and attacked the vendors.
The supporters allegedly ransacked almost all the stalls and threw away everything such as potatoes, onions, vegetables, fish and meat.
They also broke all the earthen pots.
According to vendors, a handful of them tried to put up a resistance but failed miserably.
All those who tried to put up a resistance were slapped and beaten up said a vendor.
But even after all this the vendors did not lodged any complaint with the police till Sunday night.
On the other hand, the secretary of North Howrah Trinamool Badru Ansari denied allegations by vendors.
Ansari said that it is true that a procession was taken out in protest of continuous price hike of vegetables, fish and meat.
