Hostel life can feel overwhelming at first. These small everyday rituals that can help you adjust to a new routine and space.

Staying in a hostel marks the beginning of a new chapter of life. For a large number of students, it is the first time being away from family, being responsible for everything on their own, and fitting in with their new way of life. Although the first few days can be a little difficult for them, it is not hard to see how students get used to living in hostels as long as they build up some basic habits. These habits not only help the students in arranging everything in an orderly way but also allow them to improve their health and concentration on their studies. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Kunwar Gaurav Giri, chairperson of Annapurna Girls’ Hostel, shares a notable routine which can make a significant impact on the lives of the hostellers.

According to Gaurav, spending just this little bit of time each day on cleaning will prevent any kind of distraction and give you a calm environment to work in.

3. Plan your study time

Following a strict plan for studies makes students more focused and reduces stress before the exams.

4. Stay in touch with your family

A simple phone call or FaceTime to your relatives helps to emotionally support the students and boost their confidence in their hostel life.

5. Use the common facilities

Engagement in physical exercises as well as socialising with other students will make it possible for you to develop new relationships and decrease your feelings of isolation.

6. Finish your day with planning tomorrow

Gaurav highlighted that going over what you have done during the day and planning your activities for the next day will help you manage your time properly and wake up prepared for the next day.

In considering hostel life, one must remember that hostel experience should not be limited only to the particular place where the students stay. It actually refers to the principles that form their everyday life. Over time, these little rules shape young people's sense of confidence, discipline, and freedom and are responsible for the quality of hostel life. When people live according to these principles, they enjoy their stay in the hostel much more, as their living conditions are conducive to that.
