Social media celebrates as Pakistan’s viral #ChaiWala lands a modeling contract

After his image went viral, Pakistan’s blue-eyed boy (literally) has landed a modeling contract with a retail company.

Until a couple of days ago, Arshad Khan was just another tea-seller in Islamabad’s local Sunday bazar.Until a photographer’s random shot changed his life, forever.

An image of Khan looking up into the camera, while making tea, was first posted by photographer Javeria Ali on her Instagram account. Within minutes, the image went viral, with girls commenting on his good looks and blue eyes.

Overnight, Khan became an internet sensation, gaining almost instant international popularity. As #ChaiWala trended across social media sites, modelling offers started pouring in for the tea-seller.

An Islamabad-based retail site,, signed him on and before you know it - Khan’s first shoot is already out!

“Chaiwala is no more chai wala, now he is fashion wala! ,” said a Facebook post by the online store.

The 18-year-old, who was earlier unaware of how much he had charmed the internet , is glad to know that he is famous and his pictures are being shared.

And the Internet couldn’t be happier. In fact, many people were hoping that the #ChaiWala could profit from his accidental fame.

And now that the wish has come true, this is one social media rags-to-riches story that we would love to see again.
