Lok Sabha Elections 2019: state election commission holds voter awareness drive in Pune college

Students took out a rally holding boards saying, ‘Your vote is your voice’ and ‘Don’t vote, don’t complain’

As part of right to vote awareness campaign among students, the state election commission (SEC) and Fergusson College organised a programme at the educational institute’s campus on Friday. Deepak Mhaisekar, Pune additional divisional commissioner; Subhash Borkar, Pune district deputy collector and Ravindra Pardeshi, dean, Fergusson College were present.

The students also took out a rally holding boards saying, ‘Your vote is your voice’ and ‘Don’t vote, don’t complain’. They also staged a street play highlighting the issue of malpractices during the election period.

Urging students to vote, Mhaisekar said, “‘No voter to be left behind’ is the initiative taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. We are working hard to achieve the target. It is important for students to exercise their right to vote and encourage their family members also. I request the eligible voters who have not yet registered to visit centres and register immediately.”

Pardeshi said, “For the past two years, we have been regularly conducting awareness drives in our college, encouraging students who have completed 18 years to enrol for voter registration. Most of them are first-time voters and this is the right time to generate awareness so that students can wisely choose the candidate.”
