Lok Sabha election 2019: In Bihar’s Paschim Champaran, BJP looks to retain bastion

Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha constituency has been a bastion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with its Dr Sanjay Jaiswal holding the seat since 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 40 parliamentary constituencies in Bihar in eastern India. This constituency came into existence in 2008, following delimitation of the parliamentary constituencies based on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India constituted in 2002.

There were 1,413,073 electorate in the Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha Constituency in 2014 elections, out of which 769,352 are male and the remaining 385,686 are female.

The district headquarters are located in Bettiah. The district is known for its fluid border with Nepal. According to the estimates of the 2011 census, out of total 3,935,042 population, there were 2,061,110 male and 1,873,932.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was 60.49%.
