Lok Sabha elections 2019: BJP moves ECI over ‘delay’ in action against AAP
A team led by Vijender Gupta, leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, met senior officials of the ECI and demanded strict action against the AAP leaders including “gagging” them for the alleged violations.
The BJP on Wednesday moved the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday, alleging delay in action against AAP candidates and leaders, including chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, despite complaints of violating the model code of conduct piling up against them.
A team led by Vijender Gupta, leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, met senior officials of the ECI and demanded strict action against the AAP leaders including “gagging” them for the alleged violations.
Repeated calls and messages to AAP spokesperson for a comment went unanswered.
A senior poll panel official said that a decision to initiate action against a chief minister and union ministers can only be taken by the ECI.
A notice was also served to Sandeep Dikshit, son of Congress candidate Sheila Dikshit from North East Delhi, for allegedly alluring voters with a promise of R 6,000 per month.
Delhi Congress spokesperson Jitender Kochar said that R 6,000 per month for poor families was as per the NYAY scheme (the minimum income guarantee scheme) that is the party’s major poll plank. This will be implemented not just in Delhi but across the country if Congress comes to power.
Till Wednesday, at least 258 FIR and daily diary have been lodged against various political parties.
