CPI(M)’s list of 45 candidates has some old faces and some new

In its list, the CPI(M), has named 16 candidates each for Kerala and West Bengal, two for Assam, one each for Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, and the Union territory of Lakshadweep. The party has also named two candidates each for Tamil Nadu and Tripura.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday released its list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The list includes the names of 45 candidates.

In its list, the CPI(M), has named 15 candidates each for Kerala and West Bengal, two for Assam, one each for Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, and the Union territory of Lakshadweep. The party has also named two candidates each for Tamil Nadu and Tripura.

Among the more prominent names that the party has listed are sitting MPs MB Rajesh from Palakkad, Innocent from Chalakudy, PK Sreemathi from Kannur, PK Biju from Alathur, and A Sampath from Attingal.

The CPI(M) will be hoping to repeat the 2014 Lok Sabha election performance of these MPs in the upcoming elections.

The new faces that the party has nominated for different seats from Kerala include KP Satheesh Chandran from Kasargode, P Jayarajan from Vadakar, A Pradeep Kumar from Kozhikkode.

In West Bengal, the CPI(M) is fielding the only two sitting MPs it has: Mohammed Salim in Raiganj and Badruddaza Khan from Murshidabad, among a host of other candidates.
