Lok Sabha elections 2019: Ferry ride to Taj on Yamuna in two years, promises Nitin Gadkari

Union minister for road transport and shipping Nitin Gadkari Thursday said in the next two years, Delhiites will be able to take a ferry on the Yamuna to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.
He made the announcement at a public rally organised in support of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) North West Delhi candidate Hans Raj Hans in Kirari.
Addressing the crowd that had waited for the BJP leader for over two and a half hours, Gadkari also listed out the central government’s achievements and said no government could do the work which the BJP did at the Centre in the last five years.
“I have come here to make a promise to you that in the next two years, we will develop waterways in the Yamuna and you will be able to go to see Taj Mahal in Agra on a ferry. A detailed project report of the Yamuna waterways is being developed,” Gadkari said.
He also said his ministry had started road development works worth ₹50,000 crore in Delhi.
He said air and water pollution were major problems in Delhi and he has made the best efforts to address these issues.
“We have pledged that we will free Delhi of air and water pollution. Jams are the main reason for air pollution. We have started the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways, which have reduced pollution in Delhi by 32% by diverting non-destined vehicles away from Delhi. The work on Meerut Expressway will be completed in two months. We have also approved a controlled access corridor from Akshardham to Baghpat via Kajuri Khas and Bhopura border, which will reduce congestion and pollution,” the BJP minister said.
He also took a dig at the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra saying, “We have cleaned the Ganga to such an extent that Priyanka Gandhi could drink its water.”
In the end of his 15-minute speech, Gadkari invoked the issue of national security and said that making the country superpower is the BJP’s prime agenda.
“Country’s safety is paramount. You want a majboor (helpless) PM or a majboot (strong) PM. You will have to decide this election,” he said.
