Tumkur is one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka. Situated in Tumakuru, Tumkur city is the administrative seat of power as well as the Municipal Corporation of the District. According to the Election Commission of India’s 2009 data, the total electorates in the Tumkur Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 19) were 1,388,773 of which 683,193 are women and 705,580 are males.

Congress’s SP Muddahanumegowda had won the 2014 election with a margin of nearly 75,000 votes, defeating his BJP rival GS Basavaraj.

The general elections will be held across India in seven phases beginning April 11 and the counting of votes will take place on May 23.
