PM Modi’s Varanasi roadshow soon: Politicians, sports stars, artistes to attend
The BJP workers fanned out in the city going door-to-door inviting people, including city-based Padma awardees, local industrialists, literary figures and ordinary people, to participate in the roadshow.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a mega roadshow in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on Thursday, a show of strength that will include union ministers, state chief ministera, senior leaders of the BJP and celebrities.
The Prime Minister will garland the statue of Banaras Hindu University founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya before starting the roadshow, which will cover over 6km -- from the Lanka area to Dashashwamedh Ghat via Godoliya, party leader said. On Friday, the PM will file his nomination papers for the seat he won by bagging more than half the votes polled, 56 per cent, and won with a massive margin of 3.37 lakh votes in 2014.
Top BJP leaders, including Union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman, as well as BJP president Amit Shah and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states are expected to accompany him. Among those present will be Padma awardees, industrialists, musicians, artists and artisans.

BJP leader Ashok Dhawan visited Muslim-dominated Madanpura and Sonarpura areas to invite residents to the roadshow. Party vice president of the Varanasi region, Dharmendra Singh said, “All Kashiites have warmly accepted our invitation for the road show.”
Prominent among those invited are vocalist Padma Bhushan Pandit Chhannu Lal Mishra, classical vocalist and Jaltarang artiste Padma Shri Rajeshwar Acharya, social activist Padma Shri Rajnikant, basketball player Padma Shri Prashanti Singh and folk singer Padma Shri Heera Lal Yadav. Pandit Mishra, one of the proposers of Modi’s nomination for the seat in 2014, said he would participate.
Ashok Gupta, Keshav Jalan, Deenanath Jhunjhunwala and RK Chaudhary are among the prominent city-based industrialists who have been requested to join the road show.
Nasir Abbas, grandson of Bharat Ratna shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, said, “I want to be a proposer for Modi’s nomination. I am waiting for the communication from the party. But before that I would participate in the roadshow.”
On April 26, PM Modi will visit the Baba Kaal Bhairav temple, offer prayers and leave for filing his nomination papers at 11.30 am. He is also likely to offer prayers to Kashi Vishwanath temple before that.
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, including Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) politicians from Tamil Nadu will be in attendance when Modi files his nomination papers.
