As many as 27 people were killed and several others injured as a dust storm struck havoc in two districts of the state on Friday night, police said on Saturday.
While 24 people were killed in Sultanpur, three others died in Pratapgarh district.
A total of six people were killed as a tree fell on their house in Musafirkhana township in Sultanpur, police said adding that in a similar incident three were killed in Lamhua area.
In half a dozen similar incidents in different parts of the district about 15 people were killed, they added.
District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar said there were also reports of fire in some parts which razed about 100 huts and houses.
A team of officials has been set up to evaluate the extend of damage due to the dust storm, Kumar added.
A report from Pratapgarh said three members of a family were killed when the walls of their house collapsed in Dharmpura village in the district.
