‘The Socialist’— first definitive and authorised biography of Mulayam Singh Yadav— is likely to be released in January 2012.

Authored by London based writer Frank Huzur, the book on the three-time UP chief minister comes at a time when the political scene in the state is red-hot.
Huzur is famous for ‘Imran vs Imran—the Untold Story’, the biography of the Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan.

The biography, which is in the final stages of editing, is being published by Relic Stone, London.

It is being translated into Urdu and Hindi as well. Once out, the book would also be translated in Spanish and French.

“The biography is much more than the political journey of Independent India’s socialist patriarch called Mulayam Singh Yadav. The personal life and some rare pictures of Yadav are there between the covers,” says Frank Huzur, 34, over the phone from London.

It was during a discussion with the legendary Imran Khan that the idea of biography of Mulayam Singh Yadav crossed Frank’s mind. “In several of the interviews for Imran vs Imran, my subject Imran Khan took Mulayam’s name. There I thought, yes, he is one Indian politician I would like to do a biography of,” says Frank who was born in Buxar, Bihar. He did his major in economics from Hindu College, Delhi and during that time realised that economics was the biggest mistake of his life. His first major work ‘Hitler in love with Madonna’ turned controversial in India, triggered death threats to Frank and the play went out of rehearsal mysteriously.

Frank began working on Mulayam’s biography in January 2010 and did leg work and interviews for it in different parts of UP, including Mulayam’s village Saifai (Etawah), Delhi and some other places. He interviewed Mulayam several times and also several people associated with him.

In all probability, Imran Khan would write the foreword to the book. Frank, who divides time between London, Lahore, Delhi and Mumbai, will be here for the launch in January.
