Additional floors of some high-rise buildings near the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport will be demolished due to violation of the Airport Act.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) for long had been demanding action against buildings disturbing the landing and takeoff of aircraft on the runway funnel area. Now, the district administration, Lucknow Development Authority and Lucknow Municipal Corporation have agreed to act against buildings violating the Airport Act.

As per the Airport Act, construction of buildings over 9 metres near the airport funnel area of 20 km is banned.

The act says no highrise building or construction without NoC of AAI should be permitted, but around 21 buildings (above 12 metres) have come up posing hazard for flight operations.

The district administration, LDA and LMC have made a list of 21 buildings around the airport that have violated norms, not sought NoC from the AAI and have exceeded the height limit. All the extra floors of these buildings would be demolished.

Divisional commissioner Anil Garg directed the officials of LDA and district administration to act against such high-rises, after a meeting with officials of AAI. The officials also agreed to shift meat shops in Chillawan village (next to the airport) outside the periphery of the runway for safety of aircraft.
