Sonia Gandhi’s road show today to expose ‘Kashi’s pain’
During her road show ‘Dard-e-Banaras’ on Tuesday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi will expose the plight of the city, the pathetic condition of the Ganga and lack of development in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, to take on Modi on his ‘home turf’.

Gandhi would formally sound the poll bugle for UP assembly polls, very crucial for the party, from Varanasi, highlighting that there was no development here during the past 26 months, contrary to the PM’s promise.
According to a senior party leader, the Congress president would question as to why did Kyoto-like development not take place in Kashi despite the hype during the inking of the Kashi-Kyoto protocol in August 2014 in Japan, in the presence of PM Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe. She will also raise the issue of Ganga cleaning that is yet to become a reality and focus on weavers’ plight as well.
“Bumpy roads and poor sanitation in lanes will also be on the agenda during the road show so that people may come to know about the plight of Varanasi which got merely false promises during the past 26 months,” Congress MLA Ajay Rai said. According to Congress leaders, the city was strategically selected for the road show to bring forth the ground reality.
“Varanasi is in deep pain. Roads are broken. Dumps of plastic and waste are seen in lanes,” Rai said, adding that the BJP made false claim of massive development in Kashi in the past two years.
