Authorities in Aligarh sprung to action and suspended two pharmacists on Tuesday after a video surfaced showing stray dogs dragging a dead body outside a morgue.

“Two pharmacists Prashant Baliyan and Ravi Dixit have been suspended after being found negligent. A three-member committee has been constituted to investigate the matter. A letter has been sent to the SSP Aligarh for arrangements of policemen at the morgue,” said CMO, Aligarh, Madan Lal Agarwal.

The unidentified dead body was found in Akarabad area of Aligarh three days back. Local police took the body in their custody and sent it for post-mortem. On Sunday, a few persons came to identify the unclaimed body and so the body was brought out of the freezer in the morgue and its face was uncovered.

The visitors left failing to identify it and the body remained unattended in front of the morgue. A few stray dogs then sneaked in and started dragging the body. It is not know who recorded the video.

The video clip went viral on Monday. After coming to know about it, the CMO along with city magistrate Sachin Kumar visited the morgue and enquired about the matter from the pharmacist and other staffers.

Kol MLA Anil Parashar also reached the spot and expressed his displeasure.

This is the second time in less than a year that such an incident has happened. In August 2017, stray dogs ate parts of a woman’s body that was kept in the morgue of the prestigious Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow.

The shocker came to light when the family of the dead woman came to the hospital to collect the body.
