Woman molested on Rajdhani Express, army jawan arrested

The woman, who boarded the New Delhi-bound train number 12423 at Dibrugarh, alleged Mukesh Kumar molested her when the train departed from Patna railway station after its brief halt there.

An army jawan allegedly molested a woman passenger on board the Dibrugarh Town-New Delhi Rajdhani Express after the train left the Patna railway station on Monday night, railway police said. The suspect was arrested at the Mughalsarai railway station early on Tuesday.

The woman, who boarded the New Delhi-bound train number 12423 at Dibrugarh, alleged Mukesh Kumar molested her when the train departed from Patna railway station after its brief halt there. When the woman raised an alarm, the travelling ticket examiner rushed to her aid.

Police said the TTE immediately informed the control room at Mughalsarai railway station. After the train reached the station around 1am, Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector RK Singh and Railway Protection Force (RPF) sub-inspector Rana Singh got on the train. They took Kumar into custody.

A case has been registered against Kumar under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) on the basis of the woman’s complaint.

Inspector RK Singh of the GRP said during interrogation Kumar revealed that he is an army jawan. He is posted in Assam and belongs to Gurugram.
