With the year of pandemic coming to an end and a new dawn of 2021 knocking at our doors, the celebrations this year are going to be different from before. Transitioning from a long period of uncertainty to a year of hope, here’s how Dellhiites are planning to ring in this New Year.

Some Sun, Snow and Solitude

Delhi-based data analyst Pulkit Chhabra has planned a week-long solo trip to Himachal Pradesh. “I’ve been working since last few months and feel the need to take some time off from the hustle. Travelling in groups doesn’t seem like a safe idea, so I’m going to take a shot at solo travelling, and tick the first thing off my New Year’s list on the eve itself,” he says, adding that he hopes to trek on some snow-capped hills.

Mixers and Music

Not everyone loves the idea of a quiet New Year’s Eve. And true to that emotion, some Delhiites are planning to dance the night away, albeit with safety at home! “My friends and I’ve planned a chill night at my apartment this year, because we do expect public places to be crowded. It’s going to be a potluck,” describes Noida-based educator Payal Solanki.

Volunteering for furry friends

For Delhiite Jasleen Chadha, nothing is more important than making sure our four legged companions also make it safely to the new year, amid Delhi winters. “Since the start of winters, I’ve been distributing waterproof jute beds across the Capital for stray dogs. For New Year’s Eve as well, I plan to distribute beds, dog coats and blankets to stray animals. Nothing will give me more happiness than to know they will also have a happy and warm New Year,” says Chadha.

Giving warmth and food to the needy

Amid the pandemic, the circumstances are hard for people on the streets. Hence, Gurugram-based consultant Aditi Gupta plans to distribute blankets on New Year. “In the pandemic, so many of our priorities have changed and it is now that we need to help others battle the cold as well,” she says. For Aditi Sahdev, a Delhi-based baker, her annual visit to the orphanage, is what she plans to continue this year too. “I bake cakes, cookies and sweets for them. I like to spend my day with the kids and even if for a day, I make them smile and feel like they have a family,” she describes.
