25-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting minor in Mumbai

In her statement to the police, the six-year-old girl alleged that the man lured her with a mango, took her to his home and sexually assaulted her.

A 25-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in Koliwada, Worli.

The man lured the girl on pretext of giving her a mango. He then took her to his residence and sexually assaulted her.

In her statement to the police, the girl alleged that she was playing near the seashore on May 30, when the man approached her and took her to his residence.

He then closed the door and sexually assaulted her.

“The girl screamed and ran back home,” said an official from Dadar police station.

After the girl narrated the incident to her parents, police arrested the man, who resides in a neighbouring house which he shares with three other people. However, there was nobody at home, when the incident took place.

“The girl later identified the accused, and he was arrested,” said a police official.

Divakar Shelke, senior police inspector from Dadar police station confirmed that on June 1 a case was registered under sections 376, 354 (A) (B) and 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4, 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Yadav has been remanded in police custody till June 10.
